Artist's Profile
Born in Southern California, my family moved to Michigan in high school where my artist father opened his third gallery. Between working in the gallery and attending Calvin College, I cultivated the knowledge of the gallery business and talent as an artist. An important part of that time was meeting my husband, Peter, who moved us to Utah for graduate school in 1996. We have called Salt Lake City our home ever since. As a mother of three young children I find great calm while painting. My life is my studio. The designated studio space in my home spills over into flat drying surfaces in the kitchen, dining room, and all over the floor. Paintings evolve through multiple layers and textures. My process draws from some form of land, sky, or water combination. I break down the landscape with abstraction until there is nothing left but shape and color that then leaves the scene to the imagination. Most recently inspired by artists Terry Delapp, Willem deKooning, and Kazimir Malevich.
