Old Wolf Pipe

Portrayal of a mid 18th century Seneca Pine Tree Chief belonging to the “Wolf Clan” holding an ancient clay pipe with a wolf effigy that faces the smoker. A Pine Tree Chief was a man of special ability and showed great interest in the affairs of the Nation, he was also honest and showed much confidence, the chiefs of the League elected him to sit in the Council of the League. He was proclaimed a Pine Tree, sprung up for the Nation. The Ayonwatha (Hiawatha) Belt in the background symbolizes the five original nations and the making of the Great Law. “About the model” Warren Skye (Wolf Clan) was born April 15th 1923 on the Tonawanda Seneca Reservation. A World War Two veteran, he is also an elder and Pine Tree Chief and is a teacher of the Seneca language and speaks fluently the old style Seneca language; he also works with youth all over the country teaching them about the negative use of drugs and alcohol.
